Apesar das estruturas de subordinação e coordenação, da sua constituição e limites, no Português, estarem bem documentadas para o Português (Said Ali 1931; Bechara 1999; Lobo (2003); Mateus &lt;em&gt;et al. &lt;/em&gt;2003; Matos 2005; Peres e Mascarenhas 2006, entre muitos outros), é, também, nosso objectivo, compreender se os factores externos ou sociais interferem na estruturação sintáctica de um texto. Para tal, recorreremos à metodologia variacionista, da qual William Labov (Labov, 1966, 1972; 1990, 1994, 2000; Weinreich, Labov e Herzog, 1968; entre outros) foi precursor, segundo a qual a variação linguística poderá ser explicada pelo cruzamento de factores internos, ou linguísticos, e externos ou sociais.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Para além deste aspecto, pretendemos, também, avaliar a possibilidade destas marcas sintácticas poderem ou não constituir um padrão, de forma a apoiarem uma análise linguística forense. Nos últimos anos tem crescido o interesse pela abordagem forense da linguagem, nomeadamente no que diz respeito à determinação de autoria quer de produções orais quer de textos escritos. À semelhança do que ocorre com a produção oral, é possível isolar, a partir de características individuais ou sociais (como a área geográfica de origem, o estatuto social, a idade, o sexo ou a escolaridade, entre outras), o comportamento linguístico do falante, factor determinante na investigação criminal.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Resumindo, é nosso objectivo analisar de que forma os factores sociais escolaridade, sexo e idade influenciam, e como, a presença de estruturas subordinadas e coordenadas em produções textuais.
